By no means does Kitkaliitto create your regular track. ‘Swamp’ is built up using a old movie score, with a layer of documentary samples and a deep house vibe, before bursting into techno and glitch to create near perfection. I love this and I’m sure I’ll keep hammering it for some time as well as keeping an eye on Kitkaliitto over 2010.

Earlier in the year, Matthew Dear made the first return of his Jabbajaw alias with The Garden of Eden EP since his 2003 ‘Girlfriend’ release for Perlon, . Working under one of Dear’s lesser know aliases, the EP opens with the superb ‘A Goat On Fire In The Garden of Eden’.
[Matthew Dear] “A Goat on Fire in the Garden of Eden” opens the EP on an absurdist note, as a gently scuffed kick drum gets company from a barnyard’s worth of odd, rhythmic sounds, from a slowed-down glass harmonica to a monster with the hiccups. It gets noisy in there, but Jabberjaw keeps things loose and funky underneath the polyrhythmic melee.

2009 has brought a surge of new artists and talent with Dominic Maker and Kai Campos putting together Mount Kimbie at the front line of it. Introduced to the masses through Mary Anne Hobbs Radio 1 show, showcasing Maybes, it instantly stood out and was loved by everyone that spoke about it. It’s hard to explain how great it is, make your own opinion on their debut track Maybes and recently released Serged on the Sketch On Glass EP. Get it in full here.

LA glitch mastermind, Flying Lotus and his Brainfeeder label keep growing with strength after strength, with a constant stream of great releases from the likes of Daedelus, Dr. Strangeloop, MatthewDavid, Samiyam, Gaslamp Killer and Flying Lotus setting the standards, plus many more.
Look out for the upcoming collaboration of Flying Lotus and Samiyam under their co-op alias FLYamSAM with the Precious Cargo EP due before the end of the year.

Like most comments I’ve read about the King Midas Sound, Fact Magazine Podcast 103, I can without any hesitation say how perfect it is and how I’ve had it on repeat since I picked it up.
The live edit and vocal from KMS ice the cake, so to speak. Have a listen, you’ll understand where the “influences on their twilight Lovers Rock sound” come from. Tracklist after the break.

“Odd Machine is an open-ended collaborative investigation/ the project will expand over time to include a wide variety of musicians”, so starting out with the team-up between Tobias Freund and Ricardo Villalobos, you’ll tend to expect something pretty great and The Phase In EP comes with no disappointment. José James and his Blackmagic release was produced by Flying Lotus and now gets the remix release by two hot artists of the moment, Joy Orbison and Untold. Joy Orbison’s take on the track starts with a quite and subtle approach, pleasurable and no patience needed to get to the drop about half way through the track to bring bright housey side to keep you smiling until the end.
